The Ugly Truth is a cute movie.  A chick-flick for sure, but cute.  It reminds me of a book called, "Why Men Love Bitches".  The movie, and the book, point out what women do "wrong" while dating a man.  Things like being too available and staying on the phone too long are things that "turn a man off".  In The Ugly Truth, Gerard Butler plays Mike, a man who has been hurt by women and likes to tell them why they are lonely.  Katherine Heigl plays Abby, an attractive over-controlling news producer who is clueless when it comes to men.  Mike has a late-night talk show of sorts where people call in.  Abby watches the show, calls in, and gets highly offended.  The news station Abby works at is doing terrible in ratings, so they give Mike a segment.  What happens when these two meet?  You'll have to find out for yourself!
