Letters to Juliet 05/15/2010
![]() I really wanted to see this Letters to Juliet, and on my way into the theater I was worried I was going to be let down. I wasn't at all. I'm not going to lie, it's a total chick-flick and a little (or a lot), totally predictable, but I sooo loved it. It's a movie inspired by Romeo and Juliet, and there are references throughout the film. Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) is engaged to Victor (Gael Garcia Bernal). She works at a newspaper as a fact checker and he is a chef preparing to open his own restaurant. They decide to go on a pre-honeymoon, since Victor will be so busy with the new restaurant.... and to meet vendors. Sophie gets bored doing all the wine tastings, and cheese tastings, and... and decides to go explore Italy by herself. While doing so, she comes across Juliet's house. Women from all over the world go there to write letters to Juliet. When Sophie sees a lady collect the letters in a basket and walk away with them, her inner fact-checker comes out. She finds out that there is a crew of women who call themselves Juliet's secretaries. These women collect the letters, read them, and respond to them. When Sophie helps one of the women collect the letters, she finds one that is 50 years old IN the wall when a brick falls out. Sophie responds to the letter. Charlie (Christoper Egan) tracks the women down and is rude. He's upset that his grandmother, Claire (Vanessa Redgrave), got a response. Sophie follows Charlie, meets Claire, and decides to help her track down Lorenzo (Franco Nero - who is oddly enough Vanessa's husband in real-life). This is where the fun starts. Check it out - it's really good. :) CLICK HERE TO READ OR LEAVE A COMMENT!!! 1 Comment |
